Question: Any recommendations for automatic cat feeders?
(Posted by: Judith m on 2008-02-07 09:10:57)
I want to be able to go away for long weekends, so I'll need something that will open up on two separate days. I'd like the wet food to stay reasonably fresh as well. |

I have one like this cgi.ebay.co.uk/ BRAND-NEW-AUTOMATIC-PET-FEEDER-DOG-CAT-BOWL-GREEN_W0QQitemZ220198446105QQihZ012QQcategoryZ20747QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It looks exactly the same but I bought it from a discount store for a lot less than that. It serves up to 4 meals over a period of up to 48 hours. If I'm going to be home late, I'll put their supper (wet food) in the fridge overnight (unopened) and then in the freezer for a short while before it goes into the feeder next morning. I've done that up to 10 hrs in advance of the mealtime and it's all been eaten and my cats have never suffered from that, so I assume it stays fresh ok. I don't think I'd leave it longer than that though. If further meals are needed I'd stick to dry food. |

Forget the wet food, if you're only gone two days just put out a big bowl of water and some dry food. |

I wouldnt get it. it would feed your cat too much food than it can have a day, then it would be over eating |

I only use the dry food for my cat. I have the container whereas the water automatically runs into her bowl. If I leave for the weekend, I just put out enough for the weekend, or ask my daughter to check in on her. The wet food in the cans dries out too quick, plus my cat doesn't like it. The only wet food she will eat is the one that has greens in it, the Medley I think it's called. That's her treat. LOL |

I "free feed " my cat's and when I have to leave them alone then I just leave enough food and water for them while I am gone. As for putting water on it, I wouldn't do that because then there is a chance that the food may become moldy so on that note I wouldn't recommend that at all. If it is dry cat food then it won't go stale, have a nice trip. |

They sell double feeder-water & dry food. I never saw one for wet food though. I'm pretty sure your kitty will be fine w/ o wet food for a couple days-or have a neighbor come by. Good luck & happy trails. |

I would never leave my cats alone for that long, the money you would spend on a feeder, would pay for a two night stay at a pet hotel, check it out, its pretty cool |

Have someone stop by once a day to feed your cat, clean the litter box, and give fresh water. |
