Question: Can i feed my cat feeder mice and goldfish?
(Posted by: OF THE WOOD on 2009-05-27 16:07:07)
My cat really wants to chase the squirrels outside and is always trying to get my beta fish. She is an indoor cat with lots of energy and tears up her kitty toys all the time. I want to get some feeder mice for snakes, and let them loose in a closed room with my cat. I was also thinking of getting a fish bowl that she can easily get into and put a bunch of feeder goldfish in there for her. Will either of these hurt her health? She eats spiders, and bugs. |

No. if your cat was bigger it would eat you instead. petstore mice and fishes are cleaner than humans. |

Buy more toys, the thought of someone buying an animal to entertain their pet with by killing it is sick. Your cat won't care if it's a mouse or a string it's chasing after, it only needs to keep its attention. |

Every cat has the killer instanced but not to much that it has to be a tiger and go on prowl every day and kill. killing goldfish is i think animal abuse im not to sure but the bone can splinter and cut her stomach. mice too the bone can kill her and she does not kill them for food because over the years humans domesticated cats and relies on there owners now to feed they mostly kill for fun and to release stress. |

As much as many people probably hate this topic, the truth is, small cats are built to catch and eat small animals. Now, even though your cat is domesticated, it still remains a true carnivore. Honestly, an ideal cat diet would consist of small rodents and birds. Goldfish, on the other hand, don't offer much benefit at all. So, scientifically speaking, if you really wanted to, you can feed your cat a live mouse and it wouldn't hurt it. |

That's fine. My cats get feeder mice. My BF tried them with feeder fish, but they didn't really get into it and now they screw with my beta fish more lol He's in a safe tank they can't get into and they're starting to ignore him again though. But mice are GREAT for cats. They're a very good source of taurine. Your cat will love it. |

Unless the room is totally empty and sealed off, I wouldn't let any mice loose because they'll probably escape into your house and you don't want that. I wouldn't feed your cat goldfish from the pet store either because of the chemicals they treat the water with will be in the fish. Get her one of those stuffed squirrels they make for dogs. |

No, mice won't "hurt " her.... but are you willing to have a mouse rome free in your house? and do you want mouse guts on your stuff? i think not... i personally would opt for no... |
